Education: Somalia - Project-Number: 716056
Education in Somalia is a scarce commodity. The 18 years of civil war and unending social strife in the Central South of Somalia has had and continues to have catastrophic effects on the education sector and the Somali people.
According to UNICEF, the net primary attendance ratio is lower than anywhere else in the world at just 12% for boys and 10% for girls. This explains why over 80% of Somali adults are illiterate. To enable more children – as well as adults – to participate in basic education, ADRA is currently building 71 primary schools and 24 adult literacy centers in Somaliland, Puntland and Central South Somalia and is also helping to train teachers and strengthen capacity of relevant government ministries. Special emphasis is being placed on making education more accessible to women and girls.

Education: Moldawia - Project-Number: 506187
By far, Moldova is the poorest country in Europe. About 80 percent of all inhabitants live below poverty line. As a result, many children left their families and live on the streets. ADRA Germany supports the ADRA day care centre for street children in Vadul lui Voda by providing the salaries for three educators. According to law, every child can stay in the centre for 90 days and there, it receives lodging, food and psychological care. The main goal is to reintegrate these children into their families.
